Fish Runs Clamming Alaska Seafood Recipes

When fishing in Alaska whether it is private or with a professional guide be sure to always check with the Department of Fish and Game for any bait, tackle or catch and release restrictions.


KING SALMON

Lures

  • Daredevil spoons or similar spoons in fluorescent colors 3 to 5 inches in length
  • Spin-n-Glo large sizes
  • Tee-spoons or Golf Tee spinners sizes 3-5
  • Salmon eggs - Salmon egg imitations

    Flies

  • Salmon egg patterns
  • Streamers in bright colors mainly size 2 or better

    SOCKEYE (RED SALMON)

    Lures

  • No specific lure works better for the red salmon.

    Flies

  • Most reds are caught with flies. The best pattern known is the 'Tiny Nymph' in brown or burgundy - Size 6-8.
  • Streamer flies are also popular.
  • If using lures smaller spoon and spinners are best.

    PINK SALMON, SILVER SALMON
    Lures

  • Salmon Eggs (for Silvers)
  • Krocodiles 1/2 to ¾ oz.
  • Pixies ½ to ¾ oz
  • Mepps Spinner sizes 3 to 5

    Flies

  • Streamers such as Mickey Fins or Muddler Minnows, sizes 2 to 4
  • Salmon egg patterns such as Babine Special or Skyomish Sunrise sizes 6 to 8

    RAINBOW TROUT & DOLLY VARDEN

    Lures

  • Salmon Eggs & Shrimp
  • Krocodiles 1/2 to ¾ oz.
  • Pixies ½ to ¾ oz
  • Mepps Spinner sizes 3 to 5

    Flies
  • Streamers such as Mickey Fins or Muddler Minnows, sizes 2 to 4
  • Salmon egg patterns such as Babine Special or Skyomish Sunrise sizes 6 to 8

    ARCTIC GRAYLING

    Lures

  • Mepps Spinners or something similar sizes 0 to 2
  • Small spoons 1/8 to ¼ oz.

    Flies

  • Black or dark patterns either wet or dry sizes 8 or smaller.
