PUBLIC USE RECREATION CABINS

Did you leave your tent at home? Try a public use
recreational cabin! Departments
of the Alaska State Parks, Chugach National Forest, and Kenai
Fjords National Park all maintain recreational cabins for public
use. Most of the cabins are available year round, however reservations
for the busy summer months will need to be made well in advance.
- Reservations can be made up to 180 days in advance.
- The cabins vary in size and shape and range in
rental price from $35.00 - $45.00 per night.
- Most sleep six to eight people and can be reached
by trail. A few, however, are accessible only via floatplane.
- All cabins have a wood, gas, or oil-heating stove,
fuel is not provided.
Alaska State Parks maintains nine public use cabins on the Kenai Peninsula,
located in Thumb Cove, Caines Head, and Kachemak Bay. The cabins sleep
six to eight people and cost $50.00 per night. Amenities include wooden
sleeping platforms, a wood stove, table and chairs or benches. For reservations

The Seward Ranger District of Chugach National Forest maintains 19 public
recreation cabins on the Kenai Peninsula. The Barber Cabin, four miles
from Russian River Campground via Russian River Trail, located just
and hour and a half from Kenai is wheelchair accessible with ramps at
the front and rear doors. To make reservations with the Seward Ranger

Kenai Fjords National Park maintains four public use
cabins. Holgate, Aillik, and North Arm are for summer use and are accessible
by boat, kayak, or floatplane from Seward approximately two hours from
Kenai. Willow Cabin is reserved for winter use only. For detailed information
